About Commonplace

Commonplace is a social club and community in San Diego built on a simple idea: life is better when we’re together. We host 5-15 events every month, including language clubs (Spanish, French, Portuguese, and Italian), clothing & book swaps, various art & singles events, and much more.

Our mission is to help people build real community, get off their phones, and make the most out of life. Our events are for everyone, and we want every person who walks through the door to feel like they belong.

The Role

We’re looking for a Social Media Intern to help tell the story of Commonplace online and bring more people into our community offline. You’ll work across our social channels, with a focus on Instagram, creating and/or capturing content that shows what makes our events special and inspires people to join us in person.

What You’ll Do

  • Plan and maintain content calendars across social platforms, with Instagram as the main focus

  • Create content such as posts, Reels, Stories, and graphics that promote our events and community

  • Attend events to photograph and film candid moments, behind-the-scenes footage, and member highlights

  • Edit and publish content, keeping our brand voice and visuals consistent

  • Help promote upcoming events with timely, engaging posts

  • Keep an eye on engagement, trends, and what resonates with our audience, and bring ideas to the team

  • Support community engagement

What We’re Looking For

  • Detail-oriented: you catch typos, keep schedules straight, and care about quality

  • Creative: you have an eye for visuals and storytelling

  • Organized: you’re comfortable managing a content calendar and meeting deadlines

  • A self-starter: you take initiative and pitch ideas without waiting to be asked

  • Eager to learn: no experience necessary, just curiosity and willingness to grow

  • Community-minded: passionate about the work we’re doing

Bonus Points

  • Experience planning events, or a genuine interest in planning community events

  • Familiarity with Instagram and basic photo/video editing tools (Canva, CapCut, etc.)

What You’ll Gain

  • Hands-on experience in social media and content strategy

  • A portfolio of real work you can show future employers

  • Free access to Commonplace events

  • Mentorship and room to take on your own projects

  • A front-row seat to a growing San Diego community

  • References and a letter of recommendation for future opportunities

Please apply even if you don’t feel you meet every qualification. Studies have shown that some people hold back from applying unless they check every box. If you’re excited about this role and about what we’re building at Commonplace, we’d love to hear from you. We value passion, curiosity, and fresh perspectives just as much as experience.
